Many area colleges offer matching funds to Dollars for Scholars recipients

The Postville Dollars for Scholars organization conducted their yearly phon-a-thon this past week. All funds raised will be used for scholarships for the Postville High School Class of 2005. All funds for local scholarships are raised locally and include, along with the phone-a-thon, the pancake breakfast, memorials and donations.

One of the attractive features of local awards to graduating seniors from Postville Dollars for Scholars is the possibility of matching funds at certain colleges. Some colleges will match up to a set dollar amount and some may match only a certain number of awards. Whatever their method of matching local Dollars for Scholars Awards, it means more funds for those continuing their education.

The following Iowa colleges provide some matching funds: Allen College (Waterloo); American Institute of Business (Des Moines); Buena Vista University; Coe College, Drake University; Ellsworth Community College; Grand View College; Grinnell College; Loras College; North Iowa Area Community College; Northeast Iowa Community College; Northwest Iowa Community College; Southeastern Community College; Southwestern Community College; University of Dubuque; Upper Iowa University; and Waldorf College.

An example of a matching college is the Northeast Iowa Community College at Calmar and Peosta. They will match up to $250 of the local $300 award. So, you can see how donations to Postville Dollar for Scholars can generate more funds for our graduating seniors down the road.

If you have any questions, contact David Koopman, local Dollars for Scholars president. Donations are always welcome at PO Box 2, Postville, IA 52162.
