Marvin "Dick" Hansmeier

Marvin "Dick" Hansmeier, 80, of Waukon, died Thursday, February 3, 2005, at Veterans Memorial Hospital in Waukon, following a lengthy illness. Funeral services were held Monday, February 7 at Zion United Church of Christ in Waukon, with Rev. Richard N. Eick officiating. Burial was in Oakland Cemetery, Waukon. Martin Funeral Home in Waukon was in charge of arrangements.
Marvin Nathan "Dick" Hansmeier was born July 20, 1924, in Baxter, Iowa, the son of Benjamin Theodore and Elizabeth (Stock) Hansmeier. He was baptized at Bethany UCC Church in Baxter. Dick's family moved to rural Waukon in 1926 and took up farming in Jefferson Township of Allamakee County. He attended Waukon Schools and was confirmed at Zion UCC Church in Waukon. Dick spent his entire working life on the family farm. Dick played baseball as a young man, and later enjoyed watching his nephews play football and basketball. He also liked to hunt pheasant and deer, bowl, play cards, and spend time with family and friends. He loved being with his dogs, especially his special dog Lucky.
Survivors include two sisters, Ruth Nolting of Waukon and Leona (Kenneth) Bell of Plano, Texas, and 11 nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, and two brothers, Ralph and Harvey "Shorty" Hansmeier.
Honorary casketbearers were Gordon, Tom, and Donald Hansmeier, Chic Bahr, Clem Larkin, Calvin Shindoll, Dale Livingood, and Ken Bell. Casketbearers were Milton, Charles, Larry, and Roger Nolting, John Byrnes, and Dan Hansmeier.
