Music departments of Waukon High School, Jr. High to host fourth annual Pop's Concert March 1

The music departments of Waukon High School and Waukon Junior High School will be hosting the fourth annual Pop’s Concert Saturday, March 1 at the Waukon Junior High School gymnasium.  Doors will open at 6 p.m. with concert time at 7 p.m.
The Pop’s Concert features high energy musical numbers from the 1950s through today. Most every musical group at the Waukon Junior High and High School participate in this concert, including the jazz bands, bucket bands and all vocal groups in grades 7-12, and even an elementary group is involved this year as well. Costumes are included in most every number performed at the concert and some numbers are even choreographed.
“‘A Night at the Pops’ is something that the students and audience members equally look forward to each year,” commented Adrienne Gerst, Junior High and High School Vocal Director. “It is a high-energy night of fun music for all to enjoy! Our students excitedly prepare for this concert, and it is fun as a director to see all their hard work come together in this night of great entertainment."
The Pop’s Concert is an annual fund raising event sponsored by the Allamakee Music Boosters. It replaced the Spaghetti Supper four years ago and has proven to be a very popular change for all involved and all who attend the event.
Some of the numbers performed this year will include “Just The Way You Are/Just a Dream,” from Pitch Perfect, “And So It Goes,” “Circle of Life,” “Girls Just Want to Have Fun,” “Mickey,” “Carry On My Wayward Son,” and “Barbara Ann,” just to name a few, plus the drumline and bucket bands numbers, and the jazz bands will perform traditional swing style music with a little rock mixed in.
“The Pops Concert has been a great addition to the concert schedule,” adds JoAnn Sherman, Waukon High School Band Director.  “The community seems to have a great time decorating and hosting the tables. Everyone seems to be able to get involved and has a great time.”
Anyone interested in hosting a table at the March 1 Pop’s Concert is welcome to do so by calling Shelly Lydon at 563-568-8670. Those hosting a table are asked to decorate their table and provide a dessert for their guests. The tables hold up to 10 people.
The Pop’s Concert is also open to the public for a fee and includes refreshments.  Seating is on a first come, first served basis in the bleachers and chairs located in the back of the gym. For more information call Shelly Lydon at 563-568-8670.
