NICC invites community to Open House, seventh annual Fall Fest September 10

Northeast Iowa Community College (NICC) in Calmar is welcoming back students this fall by hosting its 7th Annual Fall Fest at the Calmar campus Thursday evening, September 10, from 5-8 p.m. Students and their families, along with the general public, are encouraged to join in the activities.
A meal from Lynch BBQ will be served free of charge but free-will donations are welcome. The evening’s events also feature entertainment the whole family can enjoy, including miniature golf, ladder golf, bean bag toss, carnival games, balloon artists, dunk tank, miniature golf, face painting, kettle corn, cotton candy, Moo Mobile and train rides around campus. In addition, five inflatable “soft play” games such as Toddler Bounce, Wizard Castle Slide Bounce, Bungee Run, Velcro Wall, and Mega Obstacle Challenge will be available for all ages.
Most activities during the event are free. The carnival games and the inflatable rides will be available for 25 cents each and the specialty food items like cotton candy, kettle corn and Moo Mobile ice cream will also be available for purchase. The activities and meal will be located in the center of campus with parking available nearby. NICC is is hosting this event along with support from area businesses and churches.
Before the start of Fall Fest, beginning at 3 p.m., community residents are invited to attend an open house and building tours followed by the ribbon cutting ceremony at 4:30 p.m. for the completely renovated Industrial Technologies building and faculty office suite and computer lab in Max Clark Hall. NICC officials, trustees, NICC Foundation directors, state representatives, advisory committee members, faculty, staff and students will celebrate the building’s official opening.
Renovation of the buildings began in mid-May when classes finished for the spring term.
Proceeds from the $35 million bond levy passed by taxpayers in December 2007 funded renovations to the college’s facilities. Facility upgrades in the Industrial Technologies building include a new walkway to connect a side entrance to the front of the building and a student gathering area. Students now have additional space to collaborate with other students on projects, access wireless with laptop computers and socialize. Classroom and lab improvements to the interior greatly enhance student learning and state-of-the-art upgrades prepare graduates for the workforce.
