Iowa State University Extension is pleased to announce that the North Central Iowa Beef Conference originally planned for Sat.y, Jan. 22, has been rescheduled for Mon., Feb. 28, 8:30 a.m. - 4:00 p.m. The event will be at the Franklin County Convention Center on Highway 3 and will include a program for producers and a variety of commercial exhibits.
A highlight of the conference includes a presentation by Dr. Larry Corah, vice president of Certified Angus Beef of Wooster, Ohio. Corah's presentation, entitled "Overview of the Beef Industry: Managing for the Future" will focus on future directions for the beef industry and tips for producers to manage their operations for the future.
In addition to Corah, the conference features other notable speakers, including Dr. John Lawrence, Dr. Dan Morrical, Dr. Daryl Strohbehn, and Bryon Leu of Iowa State University, and Brian Peterson of USDA-NRCS. Topics slated for the day's agenda include pasture management, developing a successful heifer development program, new tools for sire selection, and "A Producer's Systems Approach to Beef Production", a presentation given by Jeff Ryan, a beef producer from Cresco.
A youth session originally scheduled for the same time as the producer conference will be held on Sat., April 9, in Hampton from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Youth not previously registered can contact the Franklin County Extension office at 641-456-4811 for more information or to register.
