Pauline Kiesau

Funeral services for Pauline Kiesau were held Saturday, April 2, 2005, at Community Presbyterian Church with Rev. Gary Catterson officiating. Burial was in the Postville Cemetery. The Schutte Funeral and Cremation Service of Postville was in charge of arrangements.

O. Pauline Kiesau was born July 31, 1912, to Earl Parsons and Georgia Helen (Wiederrecht) Smith, at Toolsboro, Iowa. She died Monday, March 28, 2005, in the Good Samaritan Center at Postville, Iowa, at the age of 92.

Pauline was raised on a farm in Toolsboro. She was baptized and confirmed in the Oakville Methodist Church. Following her graduation from Oakville High School in 1930, she attended Iowa Wesleyan College in Mount Pleasant, Iowa, graduating in 1935.

Pauline began her teaching career in Letts, Iowa, followed by Mediapolis and then moved to Postville. As a high school English teacher, she assumed the responsibility for classes as well as for speech contests and producing the school plays. She continued to judge state speech contests for many years after her retirement from teaching.

On June 8, 1941, Pauline was married to Dr. Milton F. Kiesau at the home of her parents in Toolsboro. Having been called to active military duty during World War II, Milton left for Europe, where he served in the Army Medical Corps for four and one-half years. When he returned following the war, Milton joined his father in his medical practice and Pauline and Milton raised their four children, David, Douglass, Mary, and Georgia, in the Postville community.

Pauline was an active and much loved member of the Postville community her entire life. As a member of the Community Presbyterian Church, she filled every role from choir member of Deacons. She especially enjoyed teaching the Loyalty Sunday School class. She was instrumental over the years in helping to bring pastors to serve the church and was an active member of the women’s association as well.

She was a member of the Hospital Auxiliary, the Monday Club, and numerous other committees and organizations. Pauline was a lifetime member of P.E.O. Chapter FT. She served on the Postville School Board and co-managed the Hospital Auxiliary food stand at the Postville Big Four Fair for a number of years. She was a strong supporter and involved with the local Cub Scout and Boy Scout programs. Both she and Milton were loyal fans of the Postville Pirate teams as well as the school music department. They were honored to serve as Homecoming Royalty in the later years. Pauline was on the Care Review Committee at the Good Samaritan Center for many years.

She is survived by her three children, a daughter-in-law, Donna Orvald, and five grandchildren: son, David and Donna Kiesau and their children: Carter Kiesau, M.D. and wife, Annie Kiesau, M.D., Marin Siemonoski, M.D. and husband, Benjamin Siemonoski, M.D., a son, Douglass Kiesau of Steamboat Springs, Colo.; a daughter, Mary (Charles) Bramer of Steamboat Springs, and their daughter, Halle Bramer, and a daughter, Georgia (Andy) Reust of Steamboat Springs, Colo., and their children, Sarah Leonard and Frank Leonard. Also surviving is a sister, Lucille Nickels of Moorehead, Minn.

She was preceded in death by a son, David; a son-in-law, Frank Leonard; a brother, Will C. Smith; and two sisters-in-law, Lillian (Donald) Eames and Esther (Paul L.) Bowlin.

Casketbearers were Carter D. Kiesau, Frank E. Leonard, III, C.J. Bramer, Leland Marsh, David Bowlin, and John Bowlin. Honorary casketbearers were Jeanie and Brad Bucknell, Boyd Turner, Jack G. Nichols, Ned B. Nichols, Paul F. and Helen Bowlin, Neal Sheely, Marin L. Siemonoski, Sarah L. Roland, and Larry Moore.
