P.E. changes implemented at Waukon High School

During a special session Monday, September 14, the Allamakee Community School District Board of Directors approved a change to the physical education curriculum at Waukon High School.
Starting during the current school year, high school students will now have three options for physical education (P.E.) classes. Students can choose an emphasis in personal fitness, team sports, or leisure sports, allowing students to focus more on activities they enjoy. The curriculum change does not change the number of P.E. classes students will have in a term, it simply changes the focus of some portions of the course.
During the meeting, it was also noted that some P.E. courses will utilize the Wellness Center facilities. Students who do not have a current membership will need to pay a $15 usage fee. (Cost for free or reduced students will be adjusted accordingly.) This fee will only cover students during school hours.
Also on the morning’s short agenda were three personnel changes. The teacher quality payment schedule was okayed, as was the recommendation to hire Amy Wasson as junior high cross country coach. In other junior high athletics, a transfer was approved for Jenny Hager and Bev Berns to swap their eighth grade volleyball coaching positions, with Hager now serving as head coach and Berns now working as assistant coach.
