Postville man charged with Burglary and Theft

Friday, April 23 Shawn Curtis Sprenger of Postville was charged with one count of Burglary in the Third Degree and one count of Theft in the Second Degree in Allamakee County. The charges stem from a joint investigation by the Winneshiek County Sheriff's Office and Allamakee County Sheriff's Office in which Sprenger admitted to burglaries and thefts in Allamakee, Winneshiek and Clayton Counties.
According to a report from the Allamakee County Sheriff's Office, Saturday, April 10 officers from the Sheriff's Departments of all three counties executed a search warrant at Sprenger's residence and recovered numerous items stolen April 5 from a business near Dorchester. During a second search of the residence April 23, additional stolen items were recovered, along with illegal controlled substances and drug paraphernalia.
Sprenger is currently being held in the Winneshiek County Jail on a parole violation. Further charges are expected to be filed in this case. Assisting in the investigation were the Calmar Police Department, Postville Police Department and Iowa State Patrol.
