Postville Police Report

The Postville Police Report for the month of February shows 39 traffic warnings, 7 other warnings, 43 traffic citations, 6 parking citations, 2 accident reports, and 9 incident reports.

Fines collected in February included: Allamakee $933.49; Clayton $15.00; vehicle inspections (15) $300, for a total of $1,248.49.

Traffic citations included: OWI, no insurance, careless driving, no DL, unsafe start, speeding, expired registration, failure to yield from stop sign, driving while suspended, fraudulent plates, obstructed view.

Juvenile arrest were as follows: One juvenile male charged with criminal mischief, and damage to Hillcrest School. Winneshiek County assisted later with subject sent to 4 Oaks.

Adult arrests were as follows: One adult male arrested for OWI and expired registration; one adult male arrested for OWI and possession of controlled substance; one adult male arrested for OWI and other traffic violations; one adult female arrested for assault causing injury; one adult male charged with criminal mischief, damage to Club 51; one 19-year-old male charged with possession of alcohol under age; one adult male arrested for public intoxication & urinating in public; one adult male arrested for interference with official acts.

The Police Department assisted the public with: 2 open doors, 11 disturbance calls, 7 car unlocks, 13 911 calls and school alarm calls, 3 animal complaints, 7 paper service, and one City infraction citation.

Assists included: 8 ambulance calls, 3 fire calls, 9 motorist assists, and 16 assists to other departments.

Two police officers attended a 2-day training session in Elkader on Informants & Drug Investigations. One reserve officer attended reserve training in Waterloo. In March Police Chief Mike Halse attended 2 days of Crime Prevention training in Des Moines which included meth awareness, bomb awareness, drug trends, crime mapping, and other prevention alternatives.
