Report indicates ACT scores for ACSD students rank above both state of Iowa and national average

The Allamakee Community School District (ACSD) recently received its "College Readiness Letter" from ACT for those students who took the test this past year. Information shared from ACT in the letter includes:
• 60 ACSD 2013 graduates took the exam this past year.
• ACSD students scores were higher than the state average in English, math, reading, science, and the composite score.
• Students also scored high in readiness for college. ACT has established that college readiness benchmarks include the following subject areas and ACT scores that are benchmarks for college readiness: English (18); Algebra (22); Reading (22) and Biology (23). ACSD students’ scores showed that 78% of the students scored an 18 or higher in English; 55% scored a 22 or higher in Algebra; 63% scored a 22 or higher in Reading; and 47% of the students scored a 23 or higher in Biology.
• The ACT composite average for 2013 ACSD graduates who took the test was 22.7, while the state of Iowa average was 22.1. The national ACT composite average for 2012 was 21.1.
ACSD Superintendent David Herold commented, “The school administration is very excited to share these scores with the community. The ACT exam is one national measure that compares our students with others throughout the nation taking the same exam. This is a true indicator of how we compare with our state and the nation. Iowa is traditionally one of the top achieving states in the nation for ACT scores, so the fact that our students ranked higher than the state average is a true indicator of this achievement. These scores show that students who graduate from the Allamakee Community School District are prepared and ready to take on the rigors of college and beyond. These scores also show the commitment of the Board of Education, staff, students and parents in preparing these kids for college.”
