Reunion of Waukon's first 50 Eagle Scouts held September 24

Saturday evening, September 24, a reunion was held at the Vet's Club in Waukon for Waukon's first 50 Eagle Scouts. Only 19 Eagles were able to attend, as pictured at left, but many others sent letters about their lives since becoming Eagle Scouts, and those letters were printed in a booklet which is available by contacting John Troendle. Many parents of those who could not attend were also there in their place.
Some of the past Scoutmasters who have been instrumental in the success of not only these Eagle Scouts but also of Waukon's Troop 64 overall were also in attendance. They included Ernie Lubahn, 1959-1967; Dave Duncklee, 1968-1978; Tom Caulkins, who filled in for Duncklee for one year while he went back to college and who came all the way from Nashville, TN to attend; Len Bruce, who helped both Duncklee and Caulkins; John Troendle, 1979-1987, Jim Wadsworth, 1987-1988, Lawrence Benda, 1988-1989, Don Haler, 1989-1996, Arnie Laures, 1996-08, Joe TeKippe, 2008-2010; and Tim Smith, present Scoutmaster.
Eagle Scouts have traditionally excelled in whatever field they have chosen to pursue in their post-scouting life. Some examples of those successes among Waukon's first 50 Eagles include:
the Director for the Center of Infectious Disease Research and Policy and a Professor of Environmental Health and Infectious Diseases;
an Industrial Engineer;
a Microbiology Professor;
an Optometrist;
a High School Athletic Director and Coach;
an Assistant Director at a public library;
a Medical Doctor;
a Chiropractor;
a Microsoft Certified System Engineer;
five Military Officers;
one who has an MS Degree in Marine Biology & Environmental Science;
an RN at Mercy Medical Center;
an undergraduate studying Pre-Med;
one working on a degree in Law Enforcement;
one at West Point Academy;
one studying Mechanical Engineering;
a Teacher of History and Political Science;
and many others who are now in high school and in college working their way toward different degrees.
