Rose Kelly

Rose M. Kelly, 79, died Wednesday, February 16, 2005, at St. Francis Hospital, La Crosse, Wis. Funeral services were held Saturday, February 19 at St. Ann’s-St. Joseph’s Catholic Church, Harpers Ferry, with Fr. Louis Trzil officiating. Burial was at St. Joseph’s Catholic Cemetery - Paint Rock. Hanson’s Funeral Home of Waukon was in charge of arrangements.

Rose Marie was born August 6, 1925, in a log cabin in rural Wexford to Jesse and Lillian (Boardman) Mohn. She attended high school in Harpers Ferry.

On August 6, 1947, she married Joseph Kelly at St. Ann’s-St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Harpers Ferry. They lived in Harpers Ferry. Rose worked for the Postal Service.

Rose and her husband spent many hours together bowling, fishing, playing horse shoes, and spending time with their children. Throughout her life she spent many hours doing crafts such as crocheting, knitting, quilting, and working with plastic canvas. Rose enjoyed playing cards with her friends and going to the Isle of Capri to play black jack and the slots. She loved family get togethers and playing six-hand euchre. Rose’s grandchildren were the light of her life and she looked forward to their many visits and practical jokes.

She was a member of St. Ann’s-St. Joseph’s Catholic Church, the American Legion Auxiliary, and the Rosary Society.

Survivors include three daughters, Mickey (John) Budde-Jangula of Brownsville, Minn., Jeanne (George) Delaney of Lansing, and Cindy (Al Garin) Kelly of Harpers Ferry; four sons, Jim (Wendy) of La Crosse, Bob (Mary Jo) of Waukon, Kenny (Csilla) of Onalaska, Wis., and Rich (Donna) of Prairie du Chien, Wis.; 19 grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Joseph Kelly; and five brothers, Merle, Dick, Tom, George, and Joe Mohn.

Honorary casketbearers were Garrett Garin, Summer Garin, Alicia Kelly, Dusty Kelly, Stacy Kelly, Ana Kelly, and Megan Budde. Casketbearers were Adam Kelly, Derick Kelly, Darren Budde, Donnie Kelly, Drew Budde, Jarad Sampson, Jamie Kelly, Bill Seitz, Scott Seitz, Travis Kuehner, Josh Kelly, and Seth Kelly.
