Bloxham, 88

Ruth E. Bloxham, of Waukon, passed away Monday, July 20, 2009, at the Good Samaritan Center in Waukon. She was 88.

Funeral services were held Friday, July 24, at Forest Mills United Methodist Church in rural Postville with Rev. Richard Iles officiating. Burial was held in Oakland Cemetery, Waukon. Honorary casket bearers were her great-grandchildren, Leslie, Peyton, Michael, Katarena, Alexia, Alec, Susan, Spencer, Hannah, Zachary, Connor, Grace, Dylan and Vaughan, and her great-great-grandchildren, Abigail and Zachary. Casket bearers were Mark Ewing, Jason Bloxham, John May, Obert Johnson, Jerry Ewing and Lee Stegan.

Ruth Evelyn Bloxham was born on July 29, 1920, on the Franklin Township, rural Postville, farm of her parents, Charles "Haley" Wilson and Ruby Viola (Bray) Ewing Sr. She was baptized and confirmed at Forest Mills United Methodist Church. Ruth attended Forest Mills country school, Waukon High School and graduated from Postville High School.

On July 29, 1939, she married Donald Vickery at the Forest Mills United Methodist Church. Donald died on June 5, 1945. On September 14, 1946, she married Keith Elton Bloxham at the Forest Mills United Methodist Church. Ruth worked for several years at the Kaveny's Gift Shop in Waukon. In 1956, she went to work as a Nurse's Aide at the Good Samaritan Center in Waukon, where she worked in several departments of nursing care. Ruth retired in February of 1988. She has been a resident at the Good Samaritan Center since February of 2003

Ruth was a life-long active member of Forest Mills United Methodist Church, where she was active in the Bible study groups and the United Methodist Women groups serving as treasurer for over 30 years. Her Lord, Savior and family were very important to her. Ruth enjoyed gardening and cooking especially preparing the usual Sunday family dinner.

She is preceded in death by her parents; her first husband, Donald; her second husband, Keith, who passed away in 2005; and four brothers, Willis, Arthur, Charles Jr., and Harry Ewing.

Survivors include her sons, Roger Vickery and Chuck (Maxine) Bloxham, both of Waukon; five grandchildren, Nichole, Alycia, Tammy, Jason and Jenny; 14 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; a sister, Helen "Tiny" May of Dallas, Texas; two brothers, Keith (Joan) Ewing of Albany, Ore., and Kenneth (Marge) Ewing of Waukon.
