Scam involving internet banking compromise emerging in local area

Waukon State Bank and Viking State Bank & Trust have been advised of a scam circulating in the local area involving internet banking. Area individuals have reported receiving phone calls from an automated caller from the phone number "00" or "unknown caller". The automated voice may say, “Your Internet Banking has been Compromised,” and further instructs the individual to select prompts on the phone or enter their Mastercard number into the phone.
Anyone who receives this call is advised to hang up the phone immediately, do not enter any numbers into the phone, as this has been discovered to be a scam attempt at accessing credit card and other personal information. Anyone who has received the phone call described above and has entered numbers into their phone is advised to call their bank immediately.
Area bank officials say there have been no compromises on any internet banking accounts, as suggested within the phone call, and the scam artists are just trying to get information. For more information about this scam, call Waukon State Bank at 563-568-3451.
