themselves.

It was explained that 5 adults and 2 youth from Waukon traveled to Cresco
to tour their Community Center. Cresco was in a similar situation to the
Allamakee Community Schools and they built their center along a existing
school. Their center includes a walking track, gyms, weight rooms,
aerobics, arts & crafts, a batting cage, a golf range net, etc. It was
used 78,000 times last year. It was felt that the city and/or county could
possibly get grants to build such a facility in Waukon.

The seniors attending our meeting showed interest in having access to
computers, email, parking and transportation.

The City Council is interested in working with the facilities committee.
They would like the facilities committee to present a proposal at a city
council meeting.

Jim Bieber and Fran Gruenhaupt met with the Shive-Hattery Company on June
30. It was an informational meeting. Shive-Hattery is mostly interested
in what the committee wants in each school facility.

It was decided that there would be a need for gym locker rooms and
facilities in the new practice gym. Also to expand East Elementary into
the Home Ec and Tech hall way rooms. Closet classrooms and shared
classrooms could then be eliminated. More decisions will be made at
following meetings.

After some discussion, the committee will start paperwork for a Ethics and
Campaign Disclosure Board. Sandra Ehrhardt will be asked to be president
and Michelle Donahue will be asked to be treasurer. Therefore the
publicity committee can continue with their efforts.

Mr. Troyer will provide a timeline for voting procedures at the next
meeting.

Jeff Moe, county assessor, attended the meeting. Due to circumstances,
Virgil Thorstenson made a motion to change the voting day from Oct. 10 to
Dec. 5, 2000. Seconded by Steve Wiedner. Carried.

Norm Delphy made a motion to continue further negotiations with the city
regarding the youth and senior area at the present Jr. High. Seconded by
Virgil Thorstenson. Carried.

The next facilities committee meeting will be Thursday, July 13, 2000 at
7:30 p.m. in the high school library. Fran Gruenhaupt will be gone and
Virgil Thorstenson will chair the meeting.
