Sheriff's Office seeking information on series of break-ins into seasonal cabins near Lansing

Since March 24, the Allamakee County Sheriff's Department has received reports that six cabins located north of Lansing had allegedly been broken into sometime during the winter. Allamakee County Sheriff Clark Mellick said that all of the cabins were unoccupied over the winter and were apparently entered by a person or persons who pried the doors open to gain entry. Mellick said that while nothing was taken from some of the cabins, several valuable items, including numerous guns, were taken from others.
A reward (see Page 11A) has been offered through a private party for information leading to the arrest and conviction of the person or persons responsible for the break-ins, which remain under investigation by the Allamakee County Sheriff's Department. Anyone with information about the break-ins is asked to call the Allamakee County Sheriff's Department at 563-568-4521.
Mellick said that he urges people not to leave valuable items, especially firearms, in unoccupied buildings for extended periods of time. He also encourages anyone who finds evidence of a break-in to call law enforcement as soon as possible and to avoid disturbing the crime scene in an effort to not further complicate any ensuing investigation.
