Sophomore boys down Decorah, DeSoto, New Hampton, fall in overtime to Turkey Valley

Waukon's sophomore boys basketball squad recently finished a busy week, competing in four contests in five days. The Indians won three of the four games, taking wins over Decorah, De Soto, and New Hampton, but also falling in overtime to Turkey Valley.
The sophomore squad has a 10-3 mark for the season.

vs. Decorah...
Monday, Jan. 24, the Indians hosted Decorah and came away with a 55-39 victory.
Waukon outscored the visiting Vikings 36-24 in the second half to break open a four-point halftime lead.
The Indians used a 22-for-31 effort at the free throw line to cushion their win.
Derek Snitker led the Tribe with 19 points and Russell ReVoir added nine.
Shawn Bjerke grabbed a team-high six rebounds and Daniel Snitker reeled in five.
On the defensive end, Will Kramer collected four steals and Derek Snitker, Bjerke, and Dillen Mellick grabbed three each.
Andrew Snitker blocked a pair of shots and Daniel Snitker denied one.
Kramer dished out a pair of assists.

The following night, Tuesday, Jan. 25, the Indians traveled to De Soto, Wis., and posted a 56-29 nonconference win.
Through the first two quarters, the Indians had doubled the Pirates' tally, taking a 30-15 advantage by the break.
Second half action went nearly as well for the Tribe, which went on to take the sizeable victory.
Tyler Oder led the offensive charge for Waukon with 12 points. Vaughn Gesing drained nine and ReVoir added eight.
Gesing paced the battle on the boards with four rebounds. Andrew Snitker grabbed three.
Defensively, Mellick collected seven steals and Devan Kuehn and Daniel Snitker each grabbed four.
ReVoir blocked three shots and Derek Snitker denied another.
Five Indians dished out a trio of assists in the win.

Extra time was needed during the Tribe's Thursday, Jan. 27 loss to Turkey Valley.
Waukon was able to build at seven-point advantage through the first two periods to enter halftime up 30-23.
In the third and fourth quarters, however, the Trojans made a run to knot the score at 50 as time expired.
Turkey Valley outdid the Indians in the four minute overtime by a single point, handing Waukon a 57-56 loss.
Four Indians finished in double figures for the night. Gesing led the way with 17 points, Derek Snitker contributed 13, Kramer added 12, and ReVoir finished with ten.
Andrew Snitker tallied ten rebounds and three blocks.
ReVoir grabbed seven boards and denied a Trojan shot.
Gesing handed out four assists and grabbed two steals.
Bjerke and Mellick also ended the night with a pair of takeaways.

Rounding out the Tribe's full week was a Northeast Iowa Conference date at New Hampton. The visiting Indians notched a solid 60-46 win.
Scoring was fairly consistent throughout the night. Waukon recorded 30 points in each half, holding the Chickasaws to 22 in the first two periods and 24 in the third and fourth combined.
Gesing and Andrew Snitker were the high scorers, each sinking ten points. Kramer added nine and Daniel Snitker finished with eight.
Andrew Snitker also paced his squad with seven rebounds and four blocked shots.
ReVoir tacked on five boards and three blocks and Gesing also reeled in five rebounds.
Daniel Snitker stole the ball five times and Derek Snitker had three takeaways.
Derek Snitker and Kramer each handed out three assists.
