Sue Frick is Licensed Massage Therapist

Sue Frick of Waukon has recently been certified as a Licensed Massage Therapist and will be introduced at a March 19 open house as the newest member of the therapy team at Mind Your Body Therapeutic Massage and Wellness Center in McGregor. Frick earned her degree in Massage Therapy in August of 2004 from Capri College in Dubuque. She then took and passed the national certification test to become licensed in the state of Iowa in November of 2004.

"In 2003 I decided to go back to school, and I knew that I wanted to do something in the area of physical therapy and wellness," Frick commented. "I wasn't quite sure which direction I wanted to go, but in talking to my chiropractor one time, she mentioned that massage therapy was a growing field that was really a great benefit to people. So, after looking into it a little bit, that's what I decided to do."

Frick's main focuses in her new position are therapeutic massage, relaxation massage and reflexology, which centers on massaging of the feet, along with some ventures into deep tissue massage. It is the simple relaxation massage that Frick finds to be the most rewarding for her, but she also likes the reflexology work that she does.

"What I find is the most rewarding is the relaxing feeling that my clients have when they are done with their session," Frick said. "I also like the idea of relieving people's muscle tension and improving circulation. Those are some of the greatest benefits of what I do."

Frick said implementation of proper mechanics learned during her schooling helps prevent extensive massage work from becoming too hard on her, as Mind Your Body offers massage packages as long as 90 minutes. "You have to use proper mechanics to keep from wearing yourself out, and it helps to space those longer sessions out, so you don't have them back-to-back," she said.

In addition to her client work, Frick also gets involved with evening and weekend wellness workshops and self empowerment classes offered by Mind Your Body. The business also offers acupuncture, healing touch and other forms of treatment. She says the business has a reciprocating referral system with some of the area chiropractors.

Frick and her husband, Roger, have lived in the Waukon area since 1979, having raised their three children - Sandy, Chris and Ed - here and graduating all three children from Waukon Senior High School.
