Supervisors discuss office relocations and proposal for internet and telephone service

by Bob Beach

During its regular meeting Tuesday, February 4, the Allamakee County Board of Supervisors discussed plans to rearrange the courthouse offices assigned to various departments. Under the proposed new arrangement, the Department of Human Services (DHS) and Job Service would move its offices currently located within the courthouse across the street into the building currently occupied by the Allamakee County Relief Office and Veterans Affairs. The Relief Office would be relocated to the office currently occupied by Allamakee Substance Abuse Prevention (ASAP) on the first floor of the courthouse and Veterans Affairs would move into the office currently occupied by DHS, also on the first floor, while ASAP would move to occupy the current Job Service office. After some discussion with Allamakee County Relief Director Becky Hawes and SPF-SIG Coordinator Maxine Grotegut, the Board voted to proceed with the new arrangement beginning in March.
The Board also discussed a proposal from Mediacom to provided internet and telephone service to County offices. Mediacom's proposal includes local and long distance telephone service for the County's 43 phone lines and high-speed internet service for a total cost of $1,198, a savings of just over $5,000 annually compared to the current arrangement for such services with Centurylink and Paytech. The Board voted to authorize Mediacom to retrieve the County's internet and phone data in order to proceed with the change in services to Mediacom.
