TASTE OF HOME COOKING SCHOOL OFFERS TIPS FOR THE TASTEBUDS SEPT. 11 AT WAUKON SENIOR HIGH

Plans for the Taste of Home Cooking School in Waukon are taking shape as home economist Kari Staus made a special trip to the area recently to meet with the staff of The Waukon Standard and hold discussions with representatives of several local businesses involved in the event.
"It's going to be an exciting program and we are expecting a sizable, spirited crowd," says Tom Johnson of The Waukon Standard, co-sponsor of the event with Kitchen Krafts and Quillin's Food Ranch.
The cooking school is associated with America's most popular cooking magazine, Taste of Home, and its sister magazine, Quick Cooking.
As recently announced, Taste of Home Cooking School of Greendale, WI, has scheduled a cooking demonstration in the Waukon Senior High gymnasium Monday, Sept. 11. This is one of only 260 locations across the nation selected for the 2000 cooking programs.
The two-hour event will include on-stage demonstrations of food preparation, new food products and kitchen shortcuts, in addition to various exhibits.
"Each person who attends will receive a free full-color cookbook, which includes all 12 recipes demonstrated during the program, plus dozens more. Although the size of the audience does not allow everyone to sample the recipes, the dishes prepared on-stage will be given away to a dozen lucky people to take home," adds Johnson.
"That's not all," he adds. "Each person there will receive a free gift bag with valuable coupons and other gift items, and be included in drawings for door prizes."
Taste of Home Cooking School, formerly known as Homemaker Schools, has been conducting food and product demonstrations across the country for more than 50 years.
Tickets are $5 each and are available at The Waukon Standard, beginning Aug. 29 at 9 a.m. The cooking demonstration will be held at the Waukon Senior High auditorium Sept. 11. The doors will open at 5 p.m.; the program will begin at 7 p.m.
