Tickets still available for VMH Auxiliary and Elliott Jewelers Eighth Annual Women's Health Day September 25

The Auxiliary of Veterans Memorial Hospital (VMH), together with Elliott Jewelers of Waukon, will be hosting the eighth annual Women’s Health Day wellness event and luncheon Tuesday, September 25 at the Waukon Banquet Center. All ages are invited to attend this educational event, beginning at 11 a.m. with a wellness fair offering a variety of free health tests and information, and including a salad luncheon and program held from Noon to 1 p.m.
Tickets are available at Veterans Memorial Hospital and Elliott Jewelers, and will also be available at the door. The proceeds from this event will be used to purchase a new Emergency Room Cart for the Emergency Department at the hospital.
The theme for this year’s event is “Go Green.” Featured speakers for the Women’s Health Day program will include Dr. Melissa Simon, the new physician with the Gundersen Lutheran Waukon Clinic, who will speak on going green with foods. Dr. Steven Davis, general surgeon with the Mayo Clinic, will speak on breast care. Occupational Therapy Staff Melissa Clarke, O.T. and Bobbi Hansmeier, C.O.T.A. will introduce their new, successful incontinence treatment program, and Jeff Mitchell, EMT-P, EMS Coordinator, and Machelle Bulman, RN, Education Coordinator, will demonstrate a new form of CPR that anyone can easily do whenever CPR is needed.
The doors will open for this event at 11 a.m., with the luncheon and program speakers beginning at Noon. Those able to take a longer lunch break may enjoy the free health testing and vendors available from 11 to Noon and again following the luncheon program. To honor one-hour lunch breaks, participants are also invited to attend just the program and luncheon which will be held to just one hour.
Free wellness testing will include blood pressure testing, blood sugar testing, mini-stress tests, body mass index testing, fitness assessments, oxygen saturation testing and carbon monoxide testing. Hands Only CPR demonstrations with a chance to practice will also be offered. Cholesterol testing will be available for a $5 charge. Free chair massages and reflexology (foot massages) will be offered by Sue Frick of the Hand, Mind and Body Salon and Day Spa, Gregg Jones of the Gregg Jones Muscular Therapy Center and Edna Wyninger of Veterans Memorial Hospital, plus information on breast cancer awareness, nutrition, smoking cessation, incontinence therapy, surgery services and many other health issues will be available. Flu shots will also be offered by VMH Community and Home Care for $25, based on availability.
Other providers offering information at the luncheon will include the Mayo Clinic Health System Franciscan Clinic-Waukon, Gundersen Lutheran Waukon Clinic, Northland Agency on Aging, Agency on Aging SMP Program, Northeast Iowa Community College (NICC), Waukon Wellness Center, ISU Extension, Midwest Sleep Services, Good Samaritan Society, Northgate Care Center, Northeast Iowa Behavioral Health and Helping Services for Northeast Iowa.
The cost of the event is $15 per person. For that fee, all those attending will receive a reusable shopping goodie bag filled with coupons, samples, and general health information, in addition to the luncheon, health testing and program. Every person attending the event will be entered into a drawing for a Ladies’ Sterling Silver and 18Kt yellow gold earring and pendant set, featuring bezel-set, cushion-cut Lemon Citrine Gemstones.  The pendant is on a textured sterling silver Figaro chain by Lorenzo (retail value $600), compliments of Elliott Jewelers of Waukon. In addition, many more door prizes will be given away at the event.
