Waukon High School to begin "Project Lead the Way" program

Waukon High School is currently starting a new program for all students in grades 9-12. The program is called "Project Lead the Way" (PLTW), a national program for students interested in engineering. This program is part of the national push for more students to investigate STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Math) fields as future careers.
Project Lead the Way will emphasize critical thinking, creativity, innovation and real-world problem solving with hands-on learning activities that gives all enrolled students exposure to areas of study they may not have otherwise thought of. This program has proven nationally that it is a quality pathway to successful post-secondary training in STEM-related fields.
During this first year of a three-year cycle, Waukon High School is offering Introduction to Engineering Design (IED), with 12 students currently enrolled in that class. This class features hands-on projects where students will apply engineering standards working with standard three-dimensional modeling software to design solutions to a set of real-world problems. They will work with school teams that can also include community partners.
Anyone interested in learning how their business could become a PLTW partner with Waukon High School is asked to contact the high school office at 563-568-3466 and speak with Assistant Principal Jennifer Garin.
