Park & Recreation Staff

Various other individuals are hired for part=time work, throughout the year, to maintain facilities and grounds and to supervise and carry out park and recreation programs.

Volunteers and Donations

Individuals and organizations are welcome to volunteer their time and talents toward the successful completion of any Park and Recreation activity. Donations to be used for specific Park and Recreation programs or purposes are strongly encouraged. We would also enjoy hearing about any new program ideas that you might have for the Waukon Parks and Recreation Department. We do our best to provide the community with diverse recreational programs to meet the needs and interest of the Waukon community. Because of your diverse needs, creativeinput is important in developing new programs of improving existing ones. Please call 568-6420 with your suggestions and ideas.

Mission Statement

To provide wholesome recreation opportunities for the people in the Waukon Community that will be appealing to all ages; challenging both the physical and mental abilities. To accomplish these goals in a cost-effective manner in order to best serve the community's needs. To develop and maintain quality parks and facilities for the betterment of the City of Waukon.

Lost and Found Items

Items found in the City Park and Campground will be stored at the Park maintenance shed. Items found at the Aquatics Center will be stored there and items found at the Softall Comlex will be kept in the concession stand. Remaining lost and found itmes at seasons end will be donated to a charitable cause.

Activity and Program Fees

Fees are due at the time of registration unless stated otherwise. Checks should be made out to: Wakon Park and Recreation. Unless an activity of program is comletely canceled or some unusual circumstnce prevails, refunds are not granted. Our staff attempts to make up as many rain dates as time allows. Questions on refunds need to be directed to the Park and Recreation Director. Sign-up deadines will be listed for each individual activity.

Registration for Programs

Most all Park and Recreation programs require filling out the standard registration form provided in this brochure or at each of the schools or at the sign-up night or at the Park and Recreation Officr ;pvsyrf sy 101 Alamakee Street. Youth sign-up night will be held Thursday, May 18, 6:00-9:00 p.m. at the Farmers and Merchants Bank Community Room. At this time registration forms and fee payments can be returned for summer programs. Coaches will be available on sign-up night to anwer questions and hand out available schedules. Forms and payments can also be sent to the Park and Recreation Office, to Chad Duerkop. Adult sign-up information will be available at the organizational meetings, to be announced, and on the registration form included in this brochure.

General Rules for Activity or Program Openings and Closings

If, in the view of the Park and Recreation Director of the supervisor in charge, not enough registrations are received for certain activities, that activity may be canceled. Fees would then be returned. If lightning or threatening weather is in the area, the activity will cease immediately and all means available will be sued to protect everyone's safety. Parents are encouraged to pick up their children as soon as safely possible. All efforts to notify the public of avancing emergency weather and cancellations are made over KNEI radio as soon as possible. Children are allowed to call parents when necessary. The Aquatic Center will be closed during home swimming meets and will reopen following the meet, if enough time remains. The Aquatic Center will close due to chilly weather and/or less than 10 people in the pool. The staff will wait a reasonable amount of time before closing.

Assumption of Risk

We strive to keep activities and facilities safe; but, just by the nature of certain Park and Recreation programs, an accident involving physical injury could hapen. A certain ammount of physical exertion and possible body contact with the elements of nature or with other individuals is normal for some activities. It is recommended that individuals check with a physcian prior to participation in our Park and Recration sponsored activities or programs. Participants and/or the parents or legal guardians of under age participants assume responsibility for the normal risks involved, whether implicit or direct, by taking part in a certain activity of facility.
