WSH BAND AND VOCAL STUDENTS AWARDED FOR ACHIEVEMENTS BEYOND CLASSROOM EXPECTATIONS

The annual Waukon Senior High Music Department Awards potluck was held Tuesday, May 23, at 6:30 p.m. in the school gymnasium. The event was originally scheduled for May 25; however, when the date conflict with the state track meet became apparent, the music department rescheduled the ceremony.
The evening was highlighted by the music of Power Jazz, the WSH Jazz Band, delicious food and, most importantly, recognition of the ambitious and hard-working young musicians in the band and vocal programs. Speech and colorguard awards were also presented.
Students lettering and/or receiving service bars for involvement “above and beyond classroom expectations” were:

In addition, band students Courtney Beardmore, Timothy Lund, Craig Mellick, and Ben Ryner achieved designation to the 200 Point Club. Courtney Beardmore and Timothy Lund achieved the 300 Point Club. Courtney Beardmore received highest point female honors with a total of 345.5 points and Timothy Lund achieved highest point male status with 343 total points.
Choir students Kelli Egan, Monica Ehrhardt, Matt Johnson, Alicia Kelly, Jonathan May, Benton Stamper, Craig Stott, Stephanie Thiele, and Lacey Wood achieved designation to the 200 Point Club. Brian Dahlstrom, Monica Ehrhardt and Andrea Snitker were named to the 300 Point Club. Highest points senior female was Audrey Piedot with 186 points, while highest points senior male designation was awarded to Brian Dahlstrom with 334 total points.
Additionally, the band department introduced three new awards to distinct seniors this year. These awards will be presented in upcoming years to the most deserving seniors who embody the qualities demonstrated by the seniors of the Class of 2000, for whom the awards are named: the Brian LeRoy Dahlstrom Posture Award, Heidi Johnson Adult Beginner Award and Craig Mellick Versatility Award.
Timothy Lund received the Louis Armstrong Jazz Award. Courtney Beardmore was recognized as this year’s John Philip Sousa Awards winner.
The vocal department senior award winners were as follows: Timothy Lund and Audrey Piedot, Vocal Director’s Meritorious Award; Craig Stott, Dean Miene Vocal Award; and Brian Dahlstrom, American Choral Director’s Association Outstanding Vocalist Award.
