ZIEMAN WILL CHAIR STATE HEALTH BOARD

Bev Zieman of Postville has recently been elected chairperson of the state Mental Health, Mental Retardation, Developmentally Disabled and Brain Injury State Commission commencing. Zieman served as vice chair of the commission the past two years and she currently replaces Steve Reuter, County Supervisor of Bremer County.
Zieman has served on the Northwest Iowa Mental Health Commission (serves 31 counties) and on the Work Activity Board in Cherokee. She is currently serving on the TASC, Inc. Board of Directors in Waukon.
The State Commission on MHMRDD has 15 members. The board is geographically considered by the Governor and is approved by Senate confirmation. Zieman has served as Sen. Zieman’s secretary in the Senate for the past eight years. While serving in Des Moines, Bev Zieman was Chaplain and Vice President of the Legislative League for the House and Senate. “Being involved with worthwhile projects is a continual education in what we do and what we learn.” said Zieman.
The State commission, completing a variety of responsibilities, has focused this past year on accreditation standards for three years, one year, or 270 days for providers of community mental health centers, mental health service providers, case management providers and CSALA/supported community living services.
