Blood donation matters

Did you know just how much blood is needed by certain patients? Here are some facts from the LifeServe Blood Center.

• Cancer patients can use up to eight units of blood a month.
• Bone Marrow Transplant patients can use up to two units a day.
• Cardiovascular Surgery patients can use between two and 25 units.
• Liver Transplant patients can use up to 100 units.
• Auto/Trauma Accident patients can use between five and 100 units.
• Premature infants can use between one and four units.
• Burn victims case use up to 20 units of platelets.
• Heart surgery patients can use up to three to eight units of red cells and one to 10 units of platelets.
• Organ transplant patients can use 10-30 units of blood.

The next LifeServe Blood Center blood drive will be held Thursday, July 11 from 12:30-5 p.m. The blood drive will be held at the First Baptist Church in south Waukon.

No CPR course offered this month at VMH

Veterans Memorial Hospital will not be offering a CPR course in July. The next class available will be offered Wednesday, August 21 and will be offered for health care professionals.

The cost for all CPR classes, for certification or recertification, at Veterans Memorial Hospital is the same. The card received with the course does certify attendants in CPR for two years. Diabetes Support Group will not meet in July

The Veterans Memorial Hospital Diabetes Support Group will not hold a regular meeting in July. The group will begin holding its regular monthly meetings again in August. Richard and Bettina Dibert 50th wedding anniversary

Richard and Bettina Dibert of New Albin will be celebrating their 50th wedding anniversary with an open house hosted by their children July 20 at the New Albin Community Center from 5-8 p.m. Family, friends and neighbors are invited.

Richard and Bettina Dibert were married July 20, 1969 in Urbana, OH. Their children are Tracy (Darcy) Dibert, Wendy Dibert, Holly (Kantrail) Horton and Kelly (Clint) Welsh. They have nine grandchildren including Annabelle, Kristina, Dalton and Evelynn Dibert, Kaiden and Kennedy Horton, and Oden, Ada and Easden Welsh.

Bulman Reunion set for July 21

The 61st annual reunion of the Bulman, Hartley and Beardmore families is scheduled for Sunday, July 21 at the Community Center in Eitzen, MN. A potluck meal will be served at 12:30 p.m. with a meeting to follow.

The five Bulman ancestors who came to America from Little Thetford, England in the 1850s were Thomas, George, William, John and their sister, Mary Bulman Sadler. All descendants of these early settlers are cordially invited to attend this reunion meal. Beverages will be provided. Those planning to attend are asked to bring their own table service, family pictures and stories to share.

A Sunday morning church service will be held at the family’s “home church,” Mt. Hope Presbyterian Church located in rural New Albin, at 9 a.m.

Adam and Jennifer Bieber of Waukon announce the birth of their son, Colin Jude Bieber, born June 30, 2019 at Veterans Memorial Hospital in Waukon. He weighed 8 lbs. 1 oz. and measured 20-1/4 inches in length at the time of his birth. He joins siblings, Sean (14), Hudson (5) and Quinn (4).

Grandparents are Sheryl and the late Daniel Bieber and Jay and the late Judy Erb, all of Waukon.

She weighed 7 lbs. 4 ozs. and measured 21-3/4 inches in length at the time of her birth. She joins brothers, Dylan Christensen (11) and Westin Beisker (7).

Upcoming Deadlines/Dates
May 15 - August 1: Primary Nesting Season.  No MCM activities on CRP acres.
June 3 - August 23: CRP Continuous Signup 52 
June 17 - September 20: Dairy Margin Coverage Program Sign-Up
July 15: Last Day to Certify Crop Acres

Crop Reporting
Allamakee county farmers are reminded to report all spring planted crops to the FSA office by July 15 to remain eligible for FSA and other USDA programs.   Please remember to bring planting dates with you.  It is the producer’s responsibility to accurately report acres and producer’s shares in individual crops.  Discrepancies found later may affect eligibility for all FSA-administered programs.  Late-filed crop reports are assessed a $46 (per) farm visit fee.
