City Meat Market named Cloy Kuhse Positive Impact Award winner

The Allamakee County Economic Development (ACED) Board and membership held the organization's annual banquet and meeting Thursday, October 10. The event was held at the historic Stone Quarry Building in New Albin. Following the dinner, the annual meeting was conducted by Laura Olson, Executive Director of ACED and Mike Kruckenberg, ACED Board President.
During the meeting, the annual Cloy Kuhse Positive Impact Award winner was announced. This award is chosen by the ACED Board of Directors and the 2013 recipient was Wuennecke’s City Meat Market of New Albin, located along Hwy. 26.
The City Meat Market was nominated for the award by the New Albin City Council.  The City Meat Market is currently owned and operated by Alan and Kelley Wuennecke and their son, Josh Drepps, and has been in operation since 1880. The Wuenneckes are the fifth generation to operate the business.
Noted from the award nomination, the City Meat Market is a landmark that commands its own notoriety by the many repeat customers who love the experience of the small market as well as their many noted varieties of meats and fish. Their impact is felt not only in Allamakee County but spreads throughout the upper midwest as well. Drepps mentioned that they recently had visitors from Australia and France stop by the Market.
The Cloy Kuhse Positive Impact Award is an annual award that is announced at the ACED fall banquet and meeting. The recipient must be a business or a company (not an individual); must be located in Allamakee County; and must make a difference in some positive way that impacts the county. Self-nominations are not accepted.
