Hindertje “Henny” Kats

Hindertje “Henny” Kats, 65, died Tuesday, March 15, 2005, at her home in Burr Oak, Iowa. Funeral services were held Monday, March 21 at First Baptist Church, Waukon, with Rev. Danny J. Volbrecht officiating. Burial was in Phelps Cemetery, Decorah. Fjelstul Funeral Home of Decorah was in charge of arrangements.

Henny was born March 27, 1939, in Bourtange, Netherlands, the daughter of Jan and Jentje (Drenth) Leemhuis. Shortly after being born, Henny and her family moved to Amsterdam, where she was raised. She graduated from high school in 1957. As a young woman, she worked in a bank.

Henny came to the United States in 1961 and settled in San Bernardino, Calif. She married Winston Davidson and he preceded her in death in 1984. Following his death, she moved back to Holland for several years.

In 1994, she met Jacob Kats. The couple married on September 11, 1996, in San Bernardino, Calif., and made their home in Joshua Tree, Calif. They moved to Decorah in 2000 and recently relocated to Burr Oak.

A homemaker most all of her life, Henny was a member of First Baptist Church in Waukon. She enjoyed knitting and gardening.

She was preceded in death by her parents and her first husband, Winston Davidson.

Survivors include her husband, Jacob Kats of Burr Oak; three sons, Glenn Davidson and Vince Davidson of Yucca Valley, Calif., and Alan (Kim) Davidson of Cresco, Iowa; five grandchildren, Glenn Davidson, Vinnie Davidson, Jill Davidson, Denise Davidson, and Joseph Davidson; and two brothers, Ko Leemhuis of Amsterdam, Holland, and Wim Leemhuis of Lelystad, Holland.

Casketbearers were Alan Davidson, Vincent Davidson, Vinnie Davidson, Joseph Davidson, and Larry Folker.
