Kathryn D. Halvorson

Kathryn D. Halvorson 63, of Meriden, CT, beloved wife of Vernon Halvorson, passed away Tuesday, March 22, 2005, at Connecticut Hospice with her loving family by her side. Services took place Saturday, March 26, 2005, at the First United Methodist Church in Meriden with the Reverend Eric A. Henderson officiating. Burial was private.

In lieu of flowers, donations in her memory may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105-1942.

Kathryn was born in Waterloo August 9, 1941, a daughter of the late Carl and Betty (Phelps) Jones.

Mrs. Halvorson had been a resident of Meriden for 38 years. She was president of the United Methodist Woman’s group (WMW) of the First United Methodist Church in the 80’s and since then a member. She was a very strong believer in her faith. She also worked for Waldbaum’s Foodmart for many years in the meat department throughout the state of Connecticut, where she had met many of her longtime and loyal friends.

Kathryn had many interests, especially throwing parties, cooking and traveling. She had many special friends and cousins she loved to get together with and they gave her much support throughout her long illness of cancer and renal failure. More than anything, she loved her children and grandchildren and they loved her dearly.

She is survived by her husband, Vernon Halvorson; a son, Dean Halvorson of Meriden; and two daughters, Tamara Medved and her husband Peter of East Hampton and Brenda Halvorson of Wallingford; a half brother, Tony Jones of Iowa; two sisters, Sharon Hayes and Bonnie Swanson, both of Missouri; a half sister, Doris Boogren of Iowa; and four grandchildren, Vanessa, DJ, Jeffrey and Sagan.
