Eighth grade girls basketball team finishes season

The eighth grade girls basketball team recently completed the 2004 season. Twenty-seven girls made up the squad this year and Dave Kruger and Pam Herman were coaches.

“These girls had desire to learn about the game and willingness to get better. As a result of these qualities, improvement was shown throughout the season,” said Kruger.

Games this year were played against Cresco, Clayton Ridge, Caledonia, Decorah, Lansing, MFL-MarMac, New Hampton, North Fayette, and Postville. Waukon played one, two, or three games against each opponent, depending on the number of players on the opposing team.

“We stressed to these girls that if they wanted to continue to improve, a lot of hard work, dedication, and sacrifice would be needed throughout the year, not just during basketball season. We challenged the girls to do just that. We hope they have a better understanding of what it takes to be successful both on the court as a member of the basketball team and off the court in their day-to-day routines. We trust that they will remember no matter what the team or organization is trying to accomplish, no one part is greater than the whole. Respect of everyone is a must in our struggles to succeed,” Kruger added.
