As if having arthritis weren’t bad enough, those who have it are more vulnerable to stress, depression, anger, and anxiety due to pain, loss of functional ability, and social contacts. According to the National Health Interview Survey, arthritis affects almost one out of every six Americans. Arthritis affects people of all ages, but is more common as you get older.
Although arthritis usually doesn't go away, its symptoms can be treated successfully.
Franciscan Skemp Healthcare is inviting the community to attend a free seminar titled “Doc, My Legs Hurt: Understanding Options in Hip and Knee Arthritis.” The seminar will be held Monday, March 31 from 6:30 to 8 p.m. in the Marycrest Auditorium, which is located on the second floor of the Medical Center, 700 West Ave. S., La Crosse, Wis.
Dr. Charles Nolte, D.O., orthopedic surgeon from Franciscan Skemp Healthcare, will present treatment options for adults suffering from arthritis of the hips and knees. “Osteoarthritis and rheumatoid arthritis are chronic diseases that may last a lifetime. Learning how to manage your pain over a long period of time is an important factor in controlling the disease and maintaining a good quality of life,” says Dr. Nolte. Also presenting is Christina Bevil, RN, BSN, ONC. She will be discussing frequently asked questions.
This seminar is sponsored by Franciscan Skemp Healthcare and supported in part by an educational grant from Genzyme BioSurgery. This seminar is free of charge and everyone is welcome to attend. For more information or to register, please call (608) 791-4172.
