Athlete of the Week

In his first district tournament appearance, Stephen swept the field to earn district championship rights at 189 pounds as well as the junior’s first trip to the state tournament. Stephen earned his state berth in dramatic fashion, scoring a 7-5 decision in overtime over seventh-rated Blake Suckow of Sumner-Fredricksburg. The championship is the first for the Tribe since 2000.

During the 2004-05 season, the three-time letterwinner was an individual champion at the Dan Gable Invitational and runner-up champion at Independence, Starmont, and sectionals and also finished third in tournament action at South Winn.

Statistically, Stephen has 22 wins, ranks second on the team in takedowns with 55, is in the top three in decisions and major decisions and stands fifth in two-point near falls.
