LaVerne “Rudy” Pacholl

LaVerne H. “Rudy” Pacholl, age 74, of Lansing, Iowa, died Tuesday, February 15, 2005, at Thornton Manor in Lansing. Funeral services were held Friday, February 18 at The Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Lansing with Fr. Daniel Knipper officiating. Burial was in Gethsemane Cemetery, Lansing. Military rites were accorded by the Beck-Glenn-Strong Post #50 of the American Legion and the Gustav F. Kerndt Post #5981 of the VFW. Thornburg Hanson Funeral Home, Lansing, was in charge of arrangements.

Rudy was born in Wilmont, Minn., on May 16, 1930, to Andrew and Ludmilla (Voss) Pacholl.

He married Mary Jane England on September 20, 1952, at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church in Downey, Calif. He served in the Navy from 1951 to 1954. He was first stationed at San Diego, Calif., later attended Engineman School Command at Great Lakes, Ill., and was also stationed at the US Naval Station, Treasure Island, San Francisco, Calif. While in the Navy he crossed the Arctic Circle in 1952 and was aboard the USS Toratoga when he went to Japan.

Rudy worked 32 years with Interstate Power Company. For seven of those years he was a chief diesel operator operating the substation at Hills, Minn. Also Rudy was at the Sherburn, Minn., Plant for 13 years. Most recently he was a shift supervisor at the Lansing plant.

He was a member of the VFW, Legion, Mississippi Valley Sportsman Club, and enjoyed reading, boating, gardening, and fishing.

He is survived by his wife, Mary Jane Pacholl of Lansing; seven children, Dan (Elke) Pacholl of Minneapolis, Minn., Sandra (Ron Sobczak) Gerdes of Savage, Minn., Debra Kay of Minneapolis, Donald Michael (Julie McCarthy) Pacholl of Canistota, S.D., Pamela (Tom) Traetow of Lakeville, Minn., Pattie Jo Ewing of Lansing, and Steve “Doc Bob Jones” Pacholl of Moose Lake, Minn.; 12 grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and three siblings, Carol Fisch of Rochester, Minn., Mary (Jerry) Bonneau of Burnsville, Minn., and Theresa (Pat) Corcoran of Eagan, Minn.

Rudy was preceded in death by his parents; one brother, Donald Pacholl; and one sister, Katheryn Renner.

Casketbearers were Tom Traetow, Adam Traetow, Tyler Traetow, Ron Sobczak, Dan Pacholl, and Donald Pacholl.
