Harlan “Sonny” Thompson, age 80, died Friday, February 11, 2005, in Rawlins, Wyo., while traveling to California. A memorial service was held Saturday, February 19 at St. John’s Lutheran Church, Wykoff. His body was donated to medical science at Mayo Clinic.
Harlan was born October 3, 1924, in Waukon, Iowa, to Herman and Inez Thompson. In February of 1948 he married Vivian Stoen. They were later divorced.
On March 30, 1973, he married Eunice Scheevel.
Harlan drove bus for Scenic Hawkeye Stages of Decorah for 43 years before retirement. He was a member of St. John’s Lutheran Church in Wykoff and the Wykoff Lions Club.
He loved driving and taking others for rides.
He is survived by his wife; a daughter, Renee Spicer of Midland, Texas; a son, Randy (Myrna) Thompson of California City, Calif.; a granddaughter, Mary; a grandson, Tyson Yarbough; step-daughter Linda (Bob) Rueb of Rochester; a step-son, Gary (Jean) Scheevel of Preston; five step-grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
