Waukon police officer stabbed with screwdriver

Saturday, January 5 at around 11:45 p.m., the Waukon Police Department responded to a report of an assault in progress at 11 Lyle Drive in Waukon. Upon entering the residence, Waukon Police Officer Chad Dugan was reportedly stabbed with a screwdriver by Raymond R. Nelson of Waukon, age 60. Nelson was taken into custody after a struggle with officers. Dugan was treated and released for minor injuries at Veterans Memorial Hospital in Waukon.
Nelson was charged with two counts of Assault on a Peace Officer (a class D felony), one count of Domestic Assault by Strangulation (a class D felony), one count of Interference with Official Acts (a class D felony) and one count of Obstruction of Emergency Communications (a simple misdemeanor). He is being held at the Allamakee County Jail.
The incident was investigated by the Allamakee County Sheriff's Department, assisted by the Waukon Police Department. Other assisting agencies included the Postville Police Department, the Lansing Police Department and Veterans Memorial Hospital Ambulance Service.
