The race for the Iowa District 28 Senate seat ended officially Monday, December 10 after the Iowa Secretary of State’s office canvassed the results of a recount requested by Democrat John Beard following a narrow loss election day to Republican Mike Breitbach by 43 votes (14,791 to 14,748). Breitbach was also declared the winner of the election following the recount, though his margin of victory narrowed to just 17 votes (14,868 to to 14,851).
In Allamakee County, the recount added 18 votes to Beard’s total (3,284 election day compared to 3,302 following the recount) and subtracted one vote from Breitbach’s total (3,458 election day, 3,459 following the recount).
