Supervisors receive audit report

During its regular meeting Monday, March 26, the Allamakee County Board of Supervisors met with Neil Schraeder of Hacker, Nelson and Company, P.C., who presented the accounting firm’s audit report of the County’s revenues and expenditures for fiscal year ending June 30, 2011. The report notes a 3.6% overall decrease in revenues and a 30.74% increase in expenses from the prior fiscal years (see accompanying release for further details). The only accounting irregularity noted in the report involved the misallocation of $20,006 in TIF funds that resulted from an error on a funding request form submitted to the County by the City of Waukon.
During public comment time, Pat Ward of Waukon addressed the Board on behalf of his sister, Mary Schulte, whose property is adjacent to the former Innovative Ag property in northwest Waukon which is in the process of being sold to Caledonia Haulers. Ward said that a recent survey of the lot disagrees with the lot lines on the abstract of Schulte’s property by 20 feet, and that the County Assessor’s Office had adjusted the lot lines accordingly, depriving Schulte of a 20-foot wide section of land that she has paid property taxes on since 1983. The Board agreed to place the issue on its agenda for next week to consult with the involved parties.
The Board also met with County Engineer Brian Ridenour, who asked the Board to set a date for the letting of bids for concrete patching of roads in various locations in the County. The Board set Monday, April 16 at 9:30 a.m. as the date and time to open bids for the project. The Board also signed a contract and bond with Mathy Construction of Onalaska, WI for the replacement of Waterville Road.
In other business, the Board signed a grant payment request letter to Homeland Security for reimbursement of $47,000 paid to Upper Explorerland Regional Planning Commission for the preparation of a county-wide hazard mitigation plan.
