Supervisors address items involving County Treasurer's office in light meeting agenda

The Allamakee County Board of Supervisors met in regular session Monday, November 28 with a relatively light agenda. Among the less-involved agenda items were the approval of the appointment of Marilyn Schorr and Sharon Costello as representatives from Allamakee County on the Northland Agency on Aging Board, as well as approval for final subdivision plats for David H. and Katherine A. Hogendorn, Stephen E. and Michele M. Pladsen, and Earl F. and Beverly Haas and David B. and Jean Ann Schon.
Allamakee County Treasurer Lori Hesse addressed three separate items with the Board, the first of those being the County's Investment Policy, which is reviewed every two years by the Board and ultimately approved again Monday. Hesse advised that there have been no changes made in the policy and that the policy continues to meet the investment objectives recommended by State of Iowa Auditor David Vaudt of safety of principal, liquidity to match expected liabilities, and obtaining a reasonable return.
Hesse then presented the Board with a proposal presented to her office to provide office space for an Iowa Department of Motor Vehicles Inspector, who currently has a small amount of space allocated to him at the Department of Transportation (DOT) shop in Decorah and is looking to occupy office space in the Waukon area two to three days a week. Hesse advised that the current back room of the driver's license area in the Treasurer's office would be a suitable location and that having such a law enforcement presence within the office would provide certain advantages of accessibility and resourcefulness. Hesse was advised to pursue the possibility of that shared office space, first looking into other factors for shared facilities or rental agreements in conjunction with the office space arrangement.
Hesse's final item was to seek approval for the hiring of Tim Fish of Waukon as a permanent part-time motor vehicle clerk, a position recently opened with the upcoming retirement of Linda Hermanson within the Treasurer's office and the promotion of Lana Snitker from that part-time position to the full-time rank being vacated by Hermanson. Hesse recommended Fish, a 20-year military veteran, out of the 30 applicants for the position, and the Board approved the hiring of Fish at a rate of $13 per hour for 15 hours per week, with his start date slated for December 12.
