LEROY SCHMIDT

LeRoy Arthur Schmidt, 86, of Waukon, died June 4, 2000, at the Good Samaritan Center in Waukon following a brief illness.
Funeral services were held Saturday, June 10, at St. John’s Lutheran Church of Waukon. Rev. Lynn Groe conducted the 10:30 a.m. service. Burial was in the Oakland Cemetery, Waukon.
Born Aug. 18, 1913, in St. Olaf. LeRoy was the son of Arthur and Lucy (Klinkenberg) Schmidt. He attended St. Olaf Elementary School, Farmersburg High School, Elkader Junior College and Iowa State University in Ames. May 16, 1934, he married Dorothy Walter at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Farmersburg. LeRoy farmed in St. Olaf and then in Jefferson Township, Allamakee County, for 30 years. He was a member of St. John’s Lutheran Church, Waukon.
LeRoy enjoyed singing and traveling the U.S. and Europe and also had his private pilot’s license.
Surviving are his wife Dorothy of Waukon; two daughters, Patricia Richardson of Winfield, IL, and Corine Schmidt of Manson, WA; and two grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a sister, Helen Johnson; and a son-in-law, Dan Richardson.
Casketbearers were James Johnson, Rolf and Eric Richardson, and John, Jim and Jesse Klosterboer.
Memorials may be made to the Good Samaritan Center or St. John’s Lutheran Church, both of Waukon.
