ALLAMAKEE DISTRICT COURT MEETS IN STANDARD SESSION: RULINGS ARE DETERMINED ON THREE COUNTY-WIDE OWI CASES

The following cases were heard in Allamakee County District Court Monday, May 22. Judge John J. Bauercamper presided:

Sanness -
Elizabeth A. Sanness, 28, of Spring Grove, MN, has been charged with operating a motor vehicle while intoxicated, first offense.
According to the trial information, Sanness was involved in a motor vehicle accident Feb. 12, 2000, on Iverson Bridge Road. On site investigation proved the defendant to be sole operator of the vehicle and test results showed her blood alcohol register at .164. Sanness received medical attention for incurred injuries.
The court ruled Sanness guilty of operating while intoxicated, first offense. She was charged $1,000 plus surcharge and court costs. Sanness will serve a two-day jail term with room and board fees attached. Restitution will be paid through community service at a rate of $5.15 per hour. Sanness is also required to complete an outpatient substance abuse evaluation and a course for drinking drivers.

Cota -
Tina Marie Cota, 29, of Ossian, was charged with operating a motorized vehicle while intoxicated, first offense.
Court records indicate that Cota was stopped, in Allamakee County, on Dec. 13, 1999, at 8:44 p.m. A field sobriety test indicated her blood alcohol level to be above the legal limit for operating a motorized vehicle.
Cota was found guilty in court of operating while intoxicated, first offense. She has been fined $1,000 plus surcharge and court costs. In addition, Cota will spend two days in jail with room and board fees attached and serve restitution through community service. She must also complete an outpatient substance abuse evaluation and a course for drinking drivers.

Young -
Randolph Scott Young, 41, of Lansing, was initially charged with operating a motor vehicle while intoxicated, first offense.
On Dec. 30, 1999, a vehicle driven by Young was stopped within Allamakee County. Upon failure of a routine field sobriety test, Young received his initial charge.
The court granted Young a deferred judgement on the offense of operating while intoxicated, pending the successful completion of an unsupervised probationary sentence. In addition, Young has been ordered community service, a substance evaluation and mandatory completion of a course for drinking drivers.
