Waukon football team is Crestwood Homecoming victim, 32-16

Looking to bounce back from a Homecoming loss that opened its Class 2A District 3 schedule a week earlier, the Waukon football team traveled to Cresco Friday, September 27 to take on a Crestwood squad that had picked up its first win of the season the week prior and had played to a winless non-district start to the season against the same three ranked opponents the grid Tribe had gone 1-2 against to start its 2024 campaign. That lone victory for the host Cadets heading into their own Homecoming game this past Friday was a forfeit win over a depleted Oelwein team, but that week off from competition may have very well factored into Crestwood, literally, running away to a 32-16 defeat of the Indians.

Now holding a 1-4 season record overall, that mark includes a 0-2 start to the Tribe’s Class 2A District 3 schedule, marking the first time since the 2016 season the Waukon football team has lost more than one district game in a single season and just the second time in Coach Beermann’s 12-year tenure at the helm of the Indians grid squad. The Tribe’s three remaining regular season games are all against teams who have a single win or less in their district record.

The first of those opponents is the only other team without a win in District 3 play, Oelwein, a squad that has not won a game this season and had to forfeit consecutive games September 13 and 20 due to low participation numbers and injury. The Huskies returned to the field this past Friday, September 27, falling at New Hampton by a 41-18 final result.
