Battle for second place in first road game comes down to fateful fourth quarter for Kee grid squad in 65-44 district loss at Riceville

Coming off its first loss of the season, and playing its first road game of this 2024 campaign, the Kee football team was facing another of Eight-Player District 3’s top contending teams when the Hawks traveled to Riceville Friday, September 27. With each team having lost to District 3 front-runner Don Bosco during the two previous football Friday nights, the runner-up position behind the undefeated Dons in the District 3 standings was on the line, but a 12-0 early Kee hill to climb and a final 32 unanswered points by the host Wildcats in the third and fourth quarters turned an otherwise blow-for-blow battle between the two squads into an eventual 65-44 defeat for Kee’s gridders.

The Hawks’ second consecutive loss leaves them with a 3-2 season record and moves them into third place in the Eight-Player District 3 standings with a 2-2 district result with three games left in the regular season that include two District 3 contests and a final non-district contest at Edgewood-Colesburg that will wrap up this fall’s regular season schedule. The two District 3 contests include facing Central Elkader (2-3, 1-2) in two weeks for a final home game, as well as a trip to West Central this Friday, October 4 to play a winless Blue Devil squad that is coming off a 70-6 loss at Don Bosco this past Friday and has been outscored by a 281-45 result in its five games played so far this season.
