Korean War Veterans Armistice Day Celebration will take place Saturday

The Allamakee County Korean War Veterans Armistice Day Celebration will take place this Saturday, July 28 at the Waukon City Park, hosted by the Allamakee County Veterans Honoring Committee. The event will take place at 1 p.m. at the shelter house near the ball diamond and will honor both living and deceased veterans from Allamakee County who served during the Korean War era. Those planning to attend the event are asked to bring flags to fly during the ceremony and to also bring their own chairs for seating.
This year marks the 63rd anniversary of the signing of the Korean War Truce and the third year of the Presidential Proclamation of July 27, 2010 as National Korean War Veterans Armistice Day by President Barack Obama.
The event will feature a program honoring Korean War veterans from Allamakee County, including the presentation of an engraved plaque to veterans or their families. Family members are asked to bring any articles of their veteran or a photo of any deceased veteran being honored to the event by 12 noon to have it placed on the Wall of Memories.
The Committee was in the process of notifying by mail all Korean War Veterans or their families who had signed up for recognition at the event, but a computer malfunction may have damaged the list of veterans' names, possibly eliminating some names.
