Allamakee County Community Foundation announces its grant recipients for 2012

The Allamakee County Community Foundation (ACCF) is pleased to announce the recipients of its 2012 grant awards. A total of 36 grant applications were submitted requesting over $200,022 in total funding this year.
Twenty of the applicants are being awarded grants for various projects and programs. This year the area of Arts and Culture had been designated a priority area by the ACCF Board of Directors. Grantees needed to meet specific criteria established by the ACCF in one of six goal areas: arts and culture; health and human services; education; neighborhoods and community development; children, youth and families; and environment. Funds available through the ACCF are from gambling revenues distributed to the county as a result of the Endow Iowa legislation.
An award reception will take place Thursday, April 19 at 9 a.m. at the Waukon Wellness Center in the Senior Dining Center. The following grant funds will be presented at the reception:

• $8,000 to the Harpers Ferry Booster Club for concept design of museum and education center
• $7,000 to the City of Lansing for city pool enhancements
•$7,000 to St. Patrick School for Apple iPad Classroom Set
• $5,000 to the City of Postville for the Hall Roberts Park gazebo project
• $5,000 to the New Albin Fire and Ambulance for a thermal imaging camera
• $5,000 to the Allamakee County Conservation Board for the Driftless Area Education and Visitor Center
• $5,000 to the ACCF Seeds for Success program
• $4,608.36 to the Waukon Economic Development Corporation for the Native American Heritage and Fur Traders summer project
• $4,600 to the Waterville Alumni and School Reunion Committee for preservation of the history of Waterville Consolidated Schools
• $4,590 to the Harpers Ferry Volunteer Fire Department for communications radios
• $3,700 to the American Legion Scenic Post 722 for a steel roof
• $3,500 to the Waterville Elementary School for a school iPad project
• $3,480 to the Waukon Wellness Center for a rock climbing wall
• $3,000 to the ACCF mini-grant fund
• $2,456 to T.A.S.C., Inc. for computers for the 21st century
• $2,341.75 to the Robey Memorial Library for an AWE early literacy station
• $2,000 to the Postville Fire Department for rescue struts
• $1,759.60 to the Arthur F. Brandt American Legion Post 518 for uniforms for Veterans burial detail
• $1,077 to Main Street Matters, Inc. for a Lansing tourism brochure & directory
• $1,000 to the Allamakee Substance Abuse Prevention for high risk drinking education kit
• $850 to the Waukon Area Fire Protection District for ice rescue suits
• $400 to the Granny Basketball League, Inc. for Granny Basketball Birthplace signs.
