Waukon girls bowling sophomore Megan Huinker bowled her way to a sixth-place finish among the Class 1A bowling elite at the Iowa High School Girls Individual State Bowling Tournament held Tuesday morning, February 10 at Cadillac XBC in Waterloo. A second consecutive season of representation for the Waukon girls bowling program at the destination where every high school bowler and team longs to be provided some history of its own when sophomore Megan Huinker competed in the Class 1A Individual State Tournament Tuesday, February 10 at Cadillac XBC in Waterloo. Being the second consecutive Waukon girls bowler to compete in the season grand finale, after 2025 graduated senior Lauryn Howard made program history as the first Lady Indian to qualify for State Bowling last winter, Huinker created her own bit of history as she became the first Waukon girls bowler to bring home a State Tournament medal as a top-eight finisher at the event, bowling her way to a sixth-place finish among this season’s Class 1A bowling elite.
The season grand finale began with all 32 Class 1A qualified bowlers rolling a three-game series to determine which of those bowlers would finish in the top-eight bowlers and advance into the bracketed championship round of play. Huinker rolled games of 203, 186 and 222 pins to compile a series total of 611 pins, which turned out to be the seventh-best total in the tournament’s 32-bowler field that ranged in scores from a top score of 666 pins and a low of 436 pins.
