Waukon girls basketball team has 2025-2026 campaign ended with 71-30 loss at Class 3A fourth-rated Dubuque Wahlert in Region 4 Tournament semifinals

After an opening-round step down the postseason path with a first-round Class 3A Region 4 Tournament win over Oelwein the weekend before, the Waukon girls basketball team’s tournament trail took a much steeper direction when the Lady Indians had to travel to fourth-rated Dubuque Wahlert Wednesday, February 18. Coached by 1978 Waukon High School graduate Kris Spiegler, the Golden Eagles returned more than half their starting line-up from a Class 3A State Tournament Runner-Up finish from last season and added a sharp-shooting freshman to the mix who nearly outscored the Indians all on her own in firing in seven three-pointers to lead Wahlert to a 71-30 defeat of the bucket Tribe.

The loss ends the Indian girls basketball season at a 13-10 overall record that includes a 9-6 mark in Upper Iowa Conference play to leave the Tribe tied with Crestwood for third place in the Large School division final standings of six teams. With the win, Wahlert advanced to the Region 4 championship game, where the Golden Eagles defeated Center Point-Urbana Saturday, February 21 by a 61-47 final result to earn a return trip to the Class 3A State Tournament, where Coach Spiegler and Wahlert will open that season grand finale against Williamsburg Monday, March 2 at 6:45 p.m.
