Over 300 enjoyed Veterans Memorial Hospital’s “Family Wellness Fair” May 6
The Veterans Memorial Hospital’s (VMH) “Family Wellness Fair” welcomed a crowd of over 300 visitors this year during their 75th anniversary celebration of the hospital. Visitors toured the VMH Medical Clinic, Hospital and Emplify by Gundersen Clinic in their route to the record number of 52 exhibitor’s educational displays, demonstrations, activities, and give-aways provided by the numerous agencies who service Allamakee and northern Clayton counties.
Those who attended and shared displays included Allamakee Emergency Management, Allamakee Substance Abuse Prevention (ASAP) and the Waukon Police Department, Ask Resources Center, Girl Scouts of Eastern Iowa, Good Samaritan Society, Emplify by Gundersen Health and Vision Clinics, Helping Services for Youth and Family, Helping Services-Allamakee Prevention Advisory and Hidden in Plain Sight, Mental Health Today-Matt Howe Tribute, Northeast Iowa Behavioral Health, Northeast Iowa Wellness and Recreation Center, Northgate Care Center, St. Croix Hospice, TASC, Village Creek Bible Camp, Visiting Nurse Association-WIC, Waukon Dental, Waukon Fire Department, Waukon Lions Club and Waukon Wellness Center/Waukon Park & Rec.
New exhibitors at the fair this year included Driftless Audiology, RSVP, Allamakee County Extension and Outreach, and Allamakee County Master Gardeners, plus Child Care Resources and Referral and Growing Bear Daycare who offered infant and child car seat checks.
Nearly 20 different hospital departments participated with educational, wellness tests and interactive booths as well. The new Senior Life Solutions (SLS) Department also welcomed visitors to view their group meeting area with an open house.
Entertainment for the evening included balloon artist Mike Chapman, face painting by FBLA students, a Waukon Fire Department fire truck and hospital ambulance all on site.
Also new this year, a community meal was served to celebrate this 75th anniversary milestone of Veterans Memorial Hospital. This family event is held each Spring on the hospital campus and is free and open to all members of the area communities.
