Midwest Veterans of America hosted an America 250 celebration Saturday, July 4 at the Waukon City Park to commemorate the 250th anniversary of the adoption of the Declaration of Independence by the United States of America.
A cookout event was held at the Sweeney Shelter near the Freedom Rock in the Waukon City Park. A group photo of all Veterans in attendance was taken (above), and a live auction was held with proceeds from that auction being donated to Veterans Memorial Hospital in Waukon.
Area Veterans pictured above in that group photo include John Adams, Marvin “Bud” Strike, Jerry Halverson, Arne Beneke, Doug Kubitz, Nanferd Felke, Judy Felke, Tom Deeney, Russell Moline, Ken Meiners, Vern Meiners, James Zaio, James Burke, Richard Helgerson, Cristiana Moline, Tom McMullan, Richard Loven, Scott Swehla, Bob Waters, Gordon Steffenson, Emmett Larkin, James Meyer, Norman Borcherding, Roger Engelhardt, Loren Lenth, Steve Palmer, Randy Berger, Jason Gearhart, Merlin Simonson and Kevin Herman.
In addition to the milestone celebration of the birth of the United States of America, the event also included the Allamakee County Republican Central Committee recognizing Midwest Veterans of America director Jerry Halverson for his efforts in honoring area Veterans through events such as this, in addition to providing other services to Veterans, with Jason Gearhart of Iowa House of Representatives District 64 also offering thanks and recognition to Halverson and Midwest Veterans of America for what the organization does for Veterans.
