The Auxiliary of Veterans Memorial Hospital (VMH), Elliott Jewelers and Waukon Chamber of Commerce’s Women’s Health Day will be celebrated Tuesday, September 1, from 4-7 p.m. at the Allamakee Fairgrounds Pavilion. The theme of this years’ event is, “The Strength Within.”

A total of seven different speakers on a variety of popular health and wellness topics will outline the night with nearly 50 health, wellness and family agencies and vendors on site ready to visit about the services they offer.  Goodie bags will be shared with the first 200 ladies who come through the doors.  Sandwiches with a large variety of hors d’oeuvres will be served throughout the evening and a cash bar will be available.

Admission to the entire event will be a $15 raffle ticket for a chance to win a Ladies natural Malachite and diamond fashion pendant, set in 14kt yellow gold on an 18” diamond cut cable chain, donated by Elliott Jewelers of Waukon (retail value $1,499). They add, “Malachite has long been treasured as a stone of protection, transformation, and emotional balance.  For centuries, it has been worn as a symbol of growth, courage, and renewal, with many believing it encourages positive change.”

The doors will open at 4 p.m. for those in attendance to enjoy the many vendors and refreshments, with the first speaker taking the stage at 5 p.m.  Speakers will present for 15 minutes each with one break midway through the program for again visiting with vendors and enjoying more refreshments.  Speakers will include topics such as the top 10 health issues for women, being proactive and preventing cancer, top 10 flags for fraud and scams, managing pain, personal leadership, the gift of joy, friendship and laughter and staying strong when it doesn’t always feel strong.

Door prizes will be drawn throughout the evening with the jewelry raffle grand prize being drawn at the end of the evening. Visitors need not be present to win the grand prize, but do need to be present to win the door prizes.

Tickets are on sale now for this event at Elliott Jewelers, the Waukon Chamber of Commerce office, and Veterans Memorial Hospital, as well as the Waukon and Postville Clinics. Proceeds from the ticket sales will be used by the Auxiliary of Veterans Memorial Hospital to purchase an electric exam table for the Waukon Clinic.
