Lawrence "Larry" Blake

Lawrence “Larry” J. Blake, age 73, of Dorchester died Sunday, September 13, 2026, at his home in Dorchester, surrounded by his family. Mass of Christian Burial is at 11 a.m. Tuesday, September 22, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Dorchester. Visitation and a meal will be from 4-7 p.m. Monday, September 21 at the Allamakee Fairgrounds Pavilion in Waukon. Visitation will also be from 9:30-11 a.m. Tuesday before the service at the church. Burial will be at St. Mary’s Cemetery, Dorchester.

Larry was born March 29, 1953, in Charles City, the son of Pat and Margaret (Hammell) Blake. He was raised in Dorchester with seven sisters and five brothers. Larry and Susie Manning were married July 1, 1972 in Wexford.

Larry farmed the family farm and helped his cousin Kenny with farming. He later transitioned into semi driving (like his father Pat) for Thompson Trucking, Caledonia Haulers and Holland Brothers. He bought his own semi and signed with Schmidt Trucking; he then worked for Staggemeyer Stave. He also worked for Allamakee County Road Maintenance until he retired, and then he went to Waukon Feed Ranch.

Larry enjoyed spending time with his family, which included going on a lot of horseback riding trips, motorcycle riding trips, and ATV rides. He loved to go visiting with family and friends, and had many great stories to tell.

Larry is survived by his loving wife, Susie; three sons, Paul (Tamila), Bob, and Kenny (Ashley); four grandchildren, Katelyn, Kelsey, Kylie, and Avery; one great-grandchild, Archer; his siblings, Connie (Dave) Pecinovsky, Patty Blake, Judy (Norman) Bailey, Diane (Terry) McKenna, Kay (Bernie) Pecinovsky, Pat (Sandy) Blake, Tom (Martha) Blake, Chris (Jim) Hackman, Mary Ann (Mark) Brodahl, and Bill (Rose) Blake; his brothers- and sisters-in-law, Linda Manning, George (Laure) Manning, Mary Blake, Vince (Mary) Manning, Jean (Jerry) Dotzler, Ray (Patti) Manning, and Steve (Tessa) Manning; and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his brothers, Ed and Mike Blake; his brother in law, Pat Manning; and several nieces and nephews. McCormick Funeral Home, Caledonia, MN is assisting the family.
